Aloo Gosht (Mutton with Potatoes)

Aloo Gosht

Aloo Gosht is a traditional Pakistani dish made with tender mutton and potatoes cooked in a rich, spiced gravy. The flavors are deep and aromatic, making it a perfect dish for family meals.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a pot and sauté onions until golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute.
  3. Add mutton pieces and cook until they turn brown.
  4. Add red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  5. Stir in chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and oil separates from the mixture.
  6. Add enough water to cover the meat, then bring it to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until the mutton is tender.
  7. Add cubed potatoes and cook until soft.
  8. Stir in yogurt, cook for a few minutes, and sprinkle garam masala powder.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with naan or rice.
